Οι 269 κατηγορούμενοι καταδικάστηκαν για ακρότητες που έγιναν το 1992 ενώ οι 17 κρίθηκαν ένοχοι για βιασμούς,. Από τους καταδικασθέντες, οι 100 ήταν αστυνομικοί και οι 155 ανήκαν στην δασική υπηρεσία. Από αυτούς 54 απεβίωσαν στην διάρκεια της δίκης ενώ το δικαστήριο θα ανακοινώσει τις ποινές σε μεταγενέστερη ημερομηνία.
Τον Ιούνιο του 1992 οι κατηγορούμενοι ανήκαν στις ομάδες οι οποίες έκαναν έφοδο σε ένα χωριό, στο Βατσάτι, στο νότιο ομόσπονδο κρατίδιο Ταμίλ Ναντού, στο πλαίσιο έρευνας για λαθραία διακίνηση σανταλόξυλου.
Στην διάρκεια της διήμερης επιχείρησης, 18 γυναίκες είχαν βιαστεί και 100 χωρικοί είχαν υποστεί βάρβαρους ξυλοδαρμούς.
Οι ακρότητες σε βάρος των Νταλίτ είναι συχνές στην Ινδία. Οι Νταλίτ, επονομαζόμενοι στο παρελθόν Ανέγγιχτοι βρίσκονται στο κατώτατο σημείο της κοινωνικής διαστρωμάτωσης των καστών.
Παρότι οι διακρίσεις σε βάρος τους καταργήθηκαν με νόμο πάνω από μισό αιώνα πριν, συνεχίζονται καθημερινά, συχνά από μέρους των μελών υψηλότερων ινδουιστικών καστών.
